Camden Winterfest, the week-long celebration leading up to the US National Toboggan Championships, kicks off on Saturday, February 4th and runs until Sunday, February 12th. Activities begin at the Amphitheatre, Harbor Park and Village Green in Camden and continue right through the Toboggan Nationals the following weekend at the Camden Snow Bowl.
The opening weekend kicks off with community-wide festivities including the Maine State Snow Sculpting Championships on the Village Green, CamJam (a freesyle ski and snowboard competition) at the Snow Bowl from 9 am to 2 pm, a Community Ice Festival at the Amphitheatre from 12 to 3 pm (sponsored by the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce), and a Winter Health Fair at Camden Whole Health from 11 am to 4 pm.
Family fun will take place through the week with evening events for the whole family. A screening of the movie Narnia will take place at the Camden Public Library on February 7th at 6 pm, and the Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers will return to the Camden Opera House on February 8th at 6 pm for a puppet show for children of all ages.
To really get the party started, CJ Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band will be playing at the Camden Opera House on Thursday, February 9th at 7 pm and the Downtown Dance featuring Mid Life Crisis will take place at 7:30 pm on Saturday, February 11th at 16 Bay View Hotel. Friday, February 10th is the first day of the US Toboggan Nationals that continue on Saturday and Sunday. Also taking place on Friday, February 10th is the Snow Plow Parade through downtown Camden at 6 pm and the Banff Film Festival at CHRHS at 7 pm, both a great time for the entire family.
Another highlight of the celebration, the annual West Bay Rotary Chili Challenge is taking place from 4:30 to 7 pm on Saturday, February 11th at Sea Dog Brewing.
