Jumpstart January 2018 - Sign-Ups Open at Camden Public Library

Posted December 21, 2017

Sign-ups are open for Camden Public Library's Jumpstart January 2018! Every January, we offer art classes for adults. We shake off the winter blues, try something new, and get a little messy! The offerings this year include creative art journals, painted mandala stones, Sculpey jewelry, and more! Each class has a $10 materials fee. Class sizes are limited, please sign up soon!

Email Cayla at cmiller@librarycamden.org to sign up, or call the library at 236-3440.

The schedule is as follows:

January 2 and 11, 6:00 pm: Art Journalling - Join us for a few evenings of creative art journalling – for ANYONE! Following Lynda Barry’s book Syllabus, we will explore words and images. Somewhere between doodles in a school notebook and expressive fine art, we will get our thoughts and memories onto the page! Attend either one or both sessions. If there is continued interest, we may start a regular art journal meetup. The award-winning author Lynda Barry is the creative force behind the genre-defying and bestselling book What It Is. She believes that anyone can be a writer or artist and has set out to prove it.

January 4, 6:00 pm: Vision Boards - Participants will create a visual collage of goals, intentions, and desires for 2018. This collage is meant to be hung prominently and used to help manifest positive intentions for the year. Creating a vision board can be a powerful meditative exercise, not to mention a lot of fun!

January 9, 6:00 pm: Mandala Stones - Join Loraine for an evening of meditative painting. Peaceful music will play as you learn to paint your own beautiful mandala stone. The raised paint makes it a useful meditation tool – you can trace the design with your finger even with your eyes closed!

January 18, 6:00 pm: Daddy-Daughter Hair Camp - Dads, do you wish you knew how to braid or otherwise help your daughter get her hair done for school or other events? Daughters, have you ever wanted to put glitter in your dad’s hair?! Well, here is your chance. Team up and learn some fantastic hair tricks. Other parent/child combos are more than welcome!

January 25, 6:00 pm: Sculpey Jewelry - Create beautiful jewelry from Sculpey clay! Sculpey is very easy to manipulate and can be turned into everything from basic round beads to complicated patterned pieces. Pieces will need to be baked at home – instructions for this step and a small tray to carry them home will also be provided.

January 30, 6:00 pm: Painted Wine Glasses - Paint your own wine glass! Join Loraine, who will walk you through the process of designing a beautiful piece of usable art!
