Maine Ocean School Welcomes Kylie Bragdon as Executive Director

Birthday celebration to benefit Knox County Homeless Coalition

The Knox County Homeless Coalition will be the beneficiary of “Hello 60!”, a celebration of the 60th birthday of Buddy Carleton of Rockland. The event will take place on Saturday, July 20 at Eclipse Restaurant in Rockland. Cocktails and a silent auction will occur from 6pm to 8pm, and dancing to the live music of 'Hello Newman' will occur from 8pm to 11pm. Contributions of funds and/or silent auction items are welcome. Maine Boat & Home Show: What’s New for 2019

The 17th annual Maine Boat & Home Show, to be held on the Rockland waterfront August 9-11, will feature an array of events and happenings in addition to the fleet of approximately 75 boats, large and small, power and sail, that will be on hand. Those works of floatable artistry will be complemented by an array of custom work by local and regional artisans and craftspeople. West Bay Rotary Donates to Local Non-Profits

Twice a year West Bay Rotary, through their charitable foundation, provides financial support to organizations that work to improve the lives of people in Knox County and the Town of Lincolnville. The West Bay Rotary Foundation invites applications from non-profits for donations up to $1,500. The donation request form is available online at and includes instructions and important criteria for submission. Applications must be received by April 1 or October 1. Congratulations to the organizations that received donations on June 27, 2019: AIO Food Pantry, The Apprenticeshop, The Coastal Children’s Museum, Knox Clinic, Merryspring Nature Center, New Hope for Women, P.A.W.S Animal Adoption Center, The Ripple Initiative, and Watershed School. Hannaford, Cafe Miranda & Community Team Up-Raising $30K for KCHC

The sounds and smells of summer were in the air outside of Café Miranda on June 7 as Hannaford once again partnered with Chef Kerry Altiero’s iconic restaurant and area businesses to support homeless families and at-risk youth in our community. Those attending the event indulged in a variety of delectable treats including oven-fired pizza, stir fry, baked mac and cheese, and tacos prepared by Café Miranda chefs as well as cheese and fruit platters donated by Hannaford Supermarkets as well as locally crafted beer and wine. Interested in Regulatory Reform? Make Your Voice Heard at this Roundtable Meeting

In order for this regulatory reform effort to be successful, we need small business participation. This will be an opportunity for small business leaders to educate Advocacy and federal agencies through firsthand accounts of how they are impacted by federal regulations. The information gathered at these roundtables will be utilized to inform agencies, congress and the public on what specific regulations can be modified or removed to help small businesses.

Island Institute announces Tom Glenn Community Impact Fund

The Island Institute, a community development organization serving Maine island and coastal communities, recently announced the launch of the Tom Glenn Community Impact Fund, a new catalyst fund which seeks to build a more diverse coastal economy by providing grants, loans, and equity investments for small businesses and municipalities. The Fund was made possible through a grant from The Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation to honor Tom Glenn II and his lifelong commitment to Maine’s island and coastal communities. More...

Camden National Bank recently presented the Knox County Homeless Coalition with a donation of $2,600; proceeds from its Hope@Home giving program. Through the Hope@Home program, Camden National Bank donates $100 to a community shelter every time a customer finances a new home through them. More...
