Rockport Roadside Tree Planting Program Accepting Applications

Rockport’s Roadside Tree Planting Program is now accepting applications from individual home owners and businesses in the town of Rockport. The program, now in its second year, is a collaboration between the Town of Rockport, Rockport Garden Club and Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) to enhance the town by planting and preserving shade-bearing trees along the roadsides. New location, offerings for 5th annual Artists & Makers Conference April 6

For its fifth year, the annual Artists & Makers Conference will feature a new location and expanded offerings tailored to meet the needs of Maine’s artists and makers and offer practical tips and strategies to help start and grow arts-related businesses in Maine. This year’s event will take place on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Point Lookout in Northport. Hosted by Archipelago and the Island Institute, the conference is open to all artists and makers who live and produce work in Maine. Rock City Coffee Transitions into Employee Owned Cooperative

Today, March 6, 2018, Rock City Cafe and Rock City Coffee Roasters, a staple of the community since 1992, have transitioned from a single owner corporation to an employee owned cooperative. Susanne Ward, with the guidance of Rob Brown and Marcel Gagne for Cooperative Development Institute, has sold her business to Rock City Employee Cooperative which currently includes 17 out of the 30 total employees. The day-to-day operation of the business will remain the same, and Susanne Ward will be staying on as general manager for another year before her retirement. Rockland Maine Street, Inc. is hosting a ribbon cutting on Thursday, March 15th, at 2pm in front of Rock City Cafe. More...

Nonetheless, as Rails of War demonstrates, without the men of the 721st Railway Operating Battalion, the Allied forces would have been defeated in the China-Burma-India conflict in World War II.
