Event Time: All Day
Camden Public Landing
1 Public Landing, Camden
Set sail for Camden Labor Day weekend and catch the Camden Windjammer Festival Sept. 5-6, 2020, when the harbor will fill with the sails and masts of as many as two dozen windjammers and schooners. Friday, Sept. 5, brings the launch of Camden’s 27th annual maritime celebration, which features the largest gathering of windjammers in the northeast. The festival offers two full days of family-friendly events, spirited competitions and nautical exhibits, a combination that one can only experience on Labor Day Weekend in Camden.
Settle in Friday around noon, on a bench at the public landing, and watch as the windjammers parade into the harbor. Capt. Jim Sharp provides running commentary on the history and glory of each vessel as it makes its way to its berth at the public docks. The vessels are greeted one by one by cheers from the crowd, and each captain is gifted a pineapple, a symbol of hospitality.
Also on Friday there is a schooner crew talent show, live music and fireworks. Saturday brings a pancake breakfast, a fish toss relay race, lobsterman's demonstration, lobster crate race in the harbor, chowder challenge and more. The event wraps up Saturday night with the Harbormaster's Dance Party under the tent.
