Candlelit Baroque

Friday, August 13 –

Event Time: 7:30-8:30

First Congregational Church of Camden, United Church of Christ
55 Elm St., Camden

One of our most popular summer performances this year features Geoff Nuttall, “a violin virtuoso and an extraordinary musician” (The New York Times); Baroque oboist Gonzalo Ruiz, whose remarkable career has included concerto performances with most of the leading period-instrument groups in America and many renowned ensembles in Europe; Grammy-winning Canadian cellist and collaborator with the Bang On A Can All-Stars, Arlen Hlusko; double bass player and composer with a weekly show on New York Public Radio, Doug Balliett. Leading the ensemble, we’re delighted to welcome a harpsichordist and Maine native who has distinguished himself internationally as both a performer and scholar of historical keyboard music and performance practice, John McKean. His concert engagements have brought him to venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Fondazione Cini in Venice, the Norðurljós Hall in Reykjavík, Iceland, and the Philips Collection in Washington, D.C.. The all-Italian program for this atmospheric concert includes VIVALDI’s Violin Concerto in E Major, L’amoroso with soloist Geoff Nuttall, and Albinoni’s Oboe Concerto in D Minor, Op. 9 No. 2 with soloist Gonzalo Ruiz.
