West Flagstaff Rd, Stratton
Discover the beauty of the Bigelow Preserve in this 3 night 4 day backpacking expedition. If you have experience in the Bigelows this will allow you to look at it from a rescuer perspective. If you have not been to the Preserve you are in for a treat! It was created in 1976 to stop development of a ski resort directly across from Sugarloaf.
You will learn and practice field-based wilderness medical skills, with an emphasis on group management, scene size-up, patient care, musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries, long term care, and managing the environment. This course is designed for those with a current Wilderness First Aid or Responder certification. Scenarios in the backcountry will give you the opportunity to practice in a realistic environment.
Course is taught by Nancy Zane, Wilderness EMT, SOLO Instructor, Maine Guide, Instructor of Emergency Medicine at the Waldo County Technical Center and founder of North Star Adventures. Nancy’s wilderness passions include: hiking, backpacking, sea kayaking, lake and river canoeing, bicycling, backcountry skiing, ice skating, outdoor cooking and outdoor education.
All meals and group gear are included. Limited to 12 participants! Mileage varies from 3 – 8 miles.
