Invoke - The Adventures of Prince Achmed

Thursday, August 19 –

Event Time: 8:30-9:30 PM

Camden Public Library Amphitheatre
55 Main St., Camden

This performance includes a screening of The Adventures of Prince Achmed, Directed by Lotte Reiniger with new original music performed live by Invoke. The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) is the oldest surviving full-length animation telling a story from the collection of Middle Eastern folk tales, One Thousand and One Nights. Following our hero, Prince Achmed, Invoke’s improvisatory score matches the story’s mix of lighthearted and more sinister themes, weaving an epic tale responding to the groundbreaking animation. Described as “not classical…but not not classical” (David Srebnik, SiriusXM Classical Producer), Invoke continues to successfully dodge even the most valiant attempts at genre classification. The multi-instrumental band’s other ‘not-nots’ encompass traditions from across America, including bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism. Invoke weaves all of these styles together to create truly individual music written by and for the group.
