Kid's Day at Pope Memorial Humane Society
Saturday, May 9, 2020
Event Time: 12-3 pm
Pope Memorial Humane Society
25 Buttermilk Lane, Thomaston
Building a kinder, gentler world begins with teaching our children the importance of compassion for all living things. To help do this, American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, launched “Be Kind to Animals Week®” in 1915. Since then, generations of Americans have come together each May to voice their concern for and improve the wellness, welfare, and well-being of our animal friends. “Be Kind to Animals Week®” is the oldest commemorative week in U.S. history, and with the support of such champions as Shirley Temple, Eleanor Roosevelt, Carol Burnett, Betty White, tough guys John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, and even Porky Pig, millions of children each year have been taught critical messages of caring, compassion, and hope.
Join staff and volunteers as we celebrate Be Kind to Animals Week at Pope Memorial Humane Society on Saturday, May 9th, 2020 rain or shine. You'll get to meet some furry or feathered friends, make an animal-themed craft, try out the “Be A Vet” station or make a catnip mouse or dog toy for shelter animals to enjoy. You can also learn how to "read" your dog or cat, play the Cats vs. Dogs beanbag toss game (who will win?), or make a special gift for Mom for Mother's day (shhh don’t tell mom). We'll have snacks and, weather permitting, make giant bubbles and have fun with some sidewalk chalk. There's plenty of fun to be had. No entry fees - just a celebration of kids, pets, and kindness! We hope you'll join us.
