More than 400 teams of winter fanatics from around the world will make the trek to Camden, Maine, from Feb. 8-10, 2019, to have their chance at racing down the 400-foot toboggan chute.
"Every year the teams get more enthusiastic and creative with their costumes," said event Chairman Holly Edwards. "Toboggan Nationals is all about turning the winter weather into something to celebrate, and we want everyone to have as much fun as possible."
For more than 25 years, costume-clad racers of all ages have slid down the ice-filled wooden chute onto the frozen surface of Hosmer Pond. The toboggan teams come dressed in a variety costumes -- from the Cowardly Lion and Dorothy Gale to Crash Test Dummies and bags of Wonder Bread -- complete with even more creative team names. At noon on Saturday, the costumed racers participate in the annual costume parade before a line of distinguished guest judges. There are trophies for best costumes too!
With races down the chute lasting all weekend, registration is Friday, 10 a.m. To 7 p.m., and teams start their races early in the morning Saturday and race until late afternoon. The fastest teams compete in the finals on Sunday to earn the title of champions at the U.S. National Toboggan Championships.
