Summer vacation will be here before you know it. Make sure you aren't stuck in the lurch this summer with nothing for those kiddos to do. Take a peek at the jammed packed Camden/Rockport PTA's "Summer Activities Fair Directorythat is now available for all your summer activity needs.

From the sports camps to science camps to horseback riding, there is something for everyone. Check out all the great offerings for kids in our area and start your summer planning!

Farm Hands Program - an experiential program at the farm where youth learn about what it is like to work and train large animals. Reading: Summer Book Read Track or Classic Novel Track, emphasizing vocabulary buidling , critical analysis, and writing! Students can sign up for one or two Sessions, for Reading or Math or both. Participation will give you a jump on the school year , avoid typical summer loss, and excercise your brain! Open to all students entering 5-8 in Camden-Rockport. Ends with a fun event cookout on last afternoon.

The Mid-Coast Community Darkrooms is now in its 18 year of offering non-residential, one-week photography camps. The focus of the program is centered on expanding the student’s personal vision of the world around them and increasing their technical skill with the photographic medium. Program choices include digital photography or traditional black and white darkroom. Days are active and packed with a variety of activities; technical demonstrations with the camera, discussions on vision, slide shows to illustrate composition, film processing and print making, field trips for shooting on location, visiting local galleries. Field trips can include exploring nearby lighthouses and beaches, local fairs, festivals, and parades, a ferry ride to Vinalhaven, or walks to parks and playgrounds. All camp sizes are small and meet Monday through Friday, 9am – 4pm. Join us!

Rockland School of Ballet’s Summer Ballet Camp, now in its 13th season, brings the love of ballet and dance to children all over the mid-coast area. Our Ballet Camps introduce dance in a safe and nurturing environment and are designed for children at every level of dance education. TINY HANDS TALKING is an enrichment program which introduces children to the world of sign language. Through music, children's literature and hands-on activities children will discover the joy and benefits of a second language. Creative and innovative themes are introduced that encourage and motivate children to learn a variety of signs that can be used at home and school. Younger children learn to read various sight words which prepares them to become independent readers while older children learn to sign sentences, songs and children's literature which prepares them to become fluent signers.

For over 30 years the University of Maine Cooperative Extension has offered exciting youth summer programs at forested Tanglewood along the Ducktrap River in Lincolnville and coastal Blueberry Cove in Tenants Harbor. All programs are centered on ecology education where campers master skills through hands-on discovery while having fun with friends and building self-confidence. Residential campers ages 8-14 spend days swimming, hiking, practicing wilderness skills and archery, creating through art and drama, exploring ponds, rivers and the ocean, sailing, on the challenge course, experimenting with science, gardening, and eating delicious home-cooked meals. Evenings wrap up each night with wicked fun evening programs. Day camps for 4-12 year olds nurture a child's natural sense of wonder and imagination and are specially developed for younger campers, emphasizing natural exploration through creative play. Adventure Trips increase campers’ confidence in the outdoors as they learn practical camping skills while exploring Maine's beautiful woods and waterways through backpacking, island camping, canoeing, and natural history exploration for youth aged 9-17. Teen Leadership builds conscious young adults, through teamwork, problem solving, community stewardship, and teaches canoeing and backpacking for ages 14-17. Tanglewood offers school and family programs year-round as well as facility rentals.
