The Midcoast’s one and only roller derby league, the Rock Coast Rollers, will be having a benefit night at Flatbread Pizza Company in Rockport on Tuesday, October 29th from 5-9pm.
The Rock Coast Rollers are based in Rockland and were founded in 2011. The Rock Coast Rollers are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and proud members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Our mission is to empower women in our community to be strong, healthy, and confident through the sport of roller derby.
When you order pizza from Flatbread during this event, the Rock Coast Rollers will receive $1.75 from each small pizza and $3.50 from each large pizza, both dine-in and take-out orders qualify. Flatbread features a traditional wood-fired, clay pizza oven and the pizzas are made with organic locally-sourced ingredients and free-range meats. Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options are available.
Proceeds from this event will help The Rock Coast Rollers with the cost of practice space rental, as well as buying more gear to loan out. We believe that roller derby should be accessible to anyone who wants to try it, but the cost of gear often deters prospective skaters. Having rental gear available means that more people can get skates on their feet and learn this amazing, empowering, inclusive sport.
Members of our league will be at Flatbread from 5-9 to sell 50/50 raffle tickets so that maybe you can walk away with a little extra dough, RCR merchandise, and answer any questions that you may have! The sport has changed quite a bit in the past 5 years alone and we'd be more than happy to explain how modern roller derby is played.
If you're interested in becoming a skater, skating or non-skating official, volunteer, EMT, or community partner, we will gladly chat with you. More information can be found at rockcoastrollers.org.
