Kessel earns Hospitality Management Certificate

Posted November 27, 2019

Bay View Collection, a small group of distinctive, luxury boutique hotels in Camden, Maine whose properties include the Lord Camden Inn, Grand Harbor Inn, and 16 Bay View, is proud to announce that Emily Kessel, one of our Guest Services Associates has earned a Hospitality Management Certificate from Cornell University through their e-Cornell Program.

As a Camden native, Emily spent her childhood in the area that would always be known as home. In 2017, she graduated with honors from Camden Hills Regional High School. While attending Camden, Emily was a three-season athlete who competed on Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track all four years and took her competitive talents to the University of Maine at Farmington, where she competed on their cross-country team.

After graduating from Camden Hills, Emily initially had her heart set on a teaching career and attended the University of Maine at Farmington for two years pursuing this path. However, while in college, she worked as a Guest Service Agent at the Comfort Inn & Suites of Farmington/Wilton and fell in love with the guest experience. After discovering her love for the hospitality business, she decided to be trained on every department and found herself wanting to learn the ins and outs of the hotel industry.

At the end of her second year at UMF, Emily decided that teaching was no longer a passion of hers and decided instead to pursue a career in hospitality. In May of 2019, Emily joined the Bay View Collection as a Guest Services Associate and has been working towards her bachelor’s degree in Hotel & Lodging Management at Johnson & Wales University while continuing to work full-time.

This fall, Emily completed coursework and received a certificate in Hospitality Management through e-Cornell, Cornell University’s online certificate program.

“We are very proud of Emily’s hospitality pursuits and ambitions. It is obvious that helping others has always been a passion of hers and we are excited that she has devoted her schooling and career path towards this endeavor while at the same time applying her great customer service talents towards our guests here at the Bay View Collection. We are very lucky to have Emily and will continue to support her educational pursuits”, says Matthew Levin, Director of Hotels for the Bay View Collection.

When Emily is not working, she can be found at her local CrossFit gym, completing college coursework, hiking or spending time with her friends and family.
