Last month, 65 LGBTQ+ high school juniors and seniors from 15 of Maine's 16 counties participated in a weekend of creative workshops and fun at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.
Celebrated LGBT artists from around the U.S. taught workshops to empower and inspire the youth to see themselves in their fullest capacity while they
modeled an open and out life in the arts. Youth participants worked alongside each other in the studios in a safe and supportive community. Students,
faculty and chaperones lived on campus for three days and participated in evening presentations and discussion groups facilitated by teaching artists.
OUT Maine was proud to partner with Haystack to put on such an inspiring weekend and extends a special THANK YOU to the visiting artists, the staff
of Haystack Mountain School of Arts and OUT Maine's volunteer Junior Counselors for making this weekend happen! OUT Maine would also like to thank
the band Gender Confetti for rocking it on Saturday night! If you’d like to see more pictures from the event, please visit OUT Maine’s facebook
OUT Maine supports, educates and empowers rural LGBTQ youth by providing community safe spaces; changing school climate through education and building
Gay/Straight/Trans Alliances (school clubs); building a strong provider safety net by training health and mental health providers, school staff,
clergy and other youth service organizations; and supporting parents and families of these at-risk youth to keep youth safe in their homes. For
