Rock Coast Rollers hosts Skate Workshop, October 20

Posted September 19, 2019

The Midcoast’s one and only roller derby league, the Rock Coast Rollers, will be hosting a Skate Workshop at Thompson Community Center in Union on October 20th from 9-11am. They will be accompanied by the Bruised Boutique Skate Shop, the largest roller derby supply store in the world, based in Nashua, New Hampshire. Not only is this a great opportunity to learn about skates, but also roller derby and how you can become involved with the Rock Coast Rollers. Anyone 18 years or older can join the Rock Coast Rollers as a skater, skating official, non-skating official, or volunteer.

Bruised Boutique will cover everything you need to know about your skates and how to eke out every drop of performance and efficiency. They will cover the basics that everyone should know, including cleaning and maintenance and some tricks that will save you money. More importantly, they will look at every component from top to bottom, examining every aspect of various boots, plates, wheels, bearings, and toe stops on the market and how to match them to your individual skating style.

Along with teaching us about skates, they will be bringing some gear for you to try on and/or purchase, which is especially exciting as there are no dedicated roller skate shops in the state of Maine. If you have any particular requests, please let the Rock Coast Rollers know as soon as possible. Requests will need to be submitted by October 17th. You can also purchase your items online, specify “in store pickup,” and ask the Bruised Boutique to bring your items to this event for pickup.

The Rock Coast Rollers are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 2011 and based in Rockland. Our mission is to empower women in our community to be strong, healthy, and confident through the sport of roller derby.
